Download the 3ds Max 2016 Supplementary Files ZIP. It is recommended that you download the files to your Documents folder, to emulate the recommended workflow. You will need to navigate to your download location when you are asked to set the Project Folder in the lessons.
You begin by importing a VSP3D file from AutoCAD Civil 3D, adding a texture to the landscape, then populating the visualization with bridges, road markings, street lighting, signs, and animated vehicles.

Imagine using 3D imagery to show your class the inner structures of a leaf, or adding 3D models of your latest products to your PDF catalog (Figure 1). It's easy with Acrobat 9 Pro Extended and a little know-how. In this article, I'll show you how to include 3D content in your PDF files and choose settings that provide the best experience for your users.
To pick a preset, click the drop-down arrow at the top of the dialog box to open a list. Acrobat provides a range of options focusing on quality or file size in different ways, including these three examples:
Use features on the Document tab to define the page layout, permissions and encryption. For repeating content, such as catalog pages, consider using a template for ease of layout. For one-off PDF pages, click Page Setup to choose settings for margins, page size and orientation. If you intend to password-protect the file, and are confident of the appearance settings you choose for the incoming model, choose security settings before creating the model to save time.
Choose options for importing with your model, if they exist. Some file types, such as 3D Studio files, don't have any configurable import choices. Instead, the tab's options are grayed out, but you'll see what's being imported.
Choose between U3D and PRC conversion formats on this tab. The file format of your 3D model determines the available settings. For PRC files, you'll have an array of choices dealing with polygon compression and level of detail. For U3D files, check out the Mesh Quality setting, where you can balance the image quality against the compression more precisely than choosing a default conversion preset. To make the model easier for the layperson to view and understand, use the Center Model At Origin setting, which moves the X-Y-Z coordinates to an origin located at the center of the bounding box (Figure 4).
Rather than building a complete page for a model, it's easy to specify a page location, or canvas, on an existing document using the 3D tool. The options available for configuring the model and the page aren't as extensive as those described earlier, since you're already working with an existing PDF file. Follow these steps to insert a model on an existing PDF page:
Whether inserted on a page or as a separate PDF file, a 3D model displays the 3D toolbar when you click its canvas (unless you deselected the option to show the toolbar when configuring the file). Many commands on the 3D toolbar are intuitive, such as rotating, zooming or manipulating the model in 3D space. Click a button with a drop-down arrow to show a list of options (Figure 7). As you see in the figure, you can choose from numerous rendering modes. Likewise, click the Light drop-down arrow to pick another lighting mode, the color swatch to change the background color, or the Cross Section to show a segment of the model.
Suppose your company sells wood moldings and furniture parts, and you're planning to include 3D models of some products. Save time and add consistency to your output with a PDF template. Use a file from any Microsoft Office application containing a PDFMaker as the PDF template. To create the template, follow these steps:
Work through the tutorials to practice some typical workflows. Download 3ds Max 2010 Supplementary Files.exe Save the files to your local machine. You will need to navigate to this folder 3ds Max 2010 Tutorials folder when you are asked to set the Project Folder in the lessons.
AutoCAD is a very flexible tool and it can be used for a wide variety of tasks. However, one thing you can't do with AutoCAD is animate a 3D model. You can, of course, create slides of perspective views and show them one after the other using a script file (see "Perspectives, Slides and Scripts" for details) but this doesn't begin to approach the quality of animation which can be produced with the aid of some other software utilities.
This tutorial shows how to create an animated walkthrough of your AutoCAD 3D model using 3DS MAX 5. All you need to start is an AutoCAD drawing with some 3D content. The end result will be a .AVI file which can be viewed on any Windows PC. AVI files can also be embedded within PowerPoint presentations along with text and other graphics to really demonstrate your design proposals.
If you do not have a 3D AutoCAD drawing to use or if you wish to follow this tutorial closely, you may like to download the sample file before you continue with the tutorial. If you wish to use your own drawing, skip to the next section. Click on the icon below to download the AutoCAD drawing file 3D-Trees.dwg. There are two download options, you can either download the native AutoCAD drawing file or you can download the smaller compressed version. The Zip file can be uncompressed with a utility such as WinZip.
If you are using the sample drawing file, your screen should now look like the one above. If you have not used 3DS MAX before, take a few moments to familiarise yourself with the layout of the program interface, it is quite different to AutoCAD.
Essentially, creating an animated walkthrough with MAX is a 5 step process. First of all we must define the path of the walk by drawing a line (Drawing a Path). Secondly we must create a camera which will record the animation (Creating a Camera). The next step is to tell 3D Studio how long the walk should take (Time Configuration). We must then assign the camera to the path (Assigning the Camera to the Path) and finally we must render the animation to create the .AVI file (Rendering the Animation). Each of these steps is covered in the following sections.
Click the Play button on the Media Player control panel to start the animation. You can also view the animation by dragging the slider. You don't need to use MAX to view a .AVI file. Any computer with Windows installed can be used because the Microsoft Media Player is part of the default installation for the Windows operating system. To play a .AVI file at any time, simply double-click the file icon or right-click and select "Play" from the menu. The AVI file format is particularly useful because it is widely supported by a whole range of graphics software. For example, AVI files can be used as part of a PowerPoint presentation. This is a good way to present AVI animations because you can combine text and other graphics with them.
For advanced 3D CAD visualization authoring, bring XVL Studio 3D CAD Corel Edition to your visual communication workflow. This powerful add-on to CorelDRAW Technical Suite exceeds traditional 3D file support. It transforms complex 3D CAD parts and assemblies into clear illustrations, and provides critical functionality and benefits not offered with the basic XVL Studio software.
Apply changes instantly with the automated 3D CAD to illustration update functionality. Modifications made to the 3D CAD source files will be applied during the update process. With the seamless Auto Detection and Update functionality, you can ensure any changes originating from an engineering design will be implemented.
Author, share or output 3D visualizations in a variety of formats. Create high-resolution and photo-realistic shaded renderings from 3D output projects and then share in the preferred 3D file format, including IGES, STL, U3D, XVL and VRML, or publish to 3D PDF.
Download the CarStart.zip file below. Then you can start modeling the bumper, hoods, and windows of the car. Continue to model from new Plane objects and begin shaping the front & back grills and lights.
